An energy-based quantitative coal burst proneness rating system for development roadways

Abstract Coal burst is one of the principal hazards in development panels underground coal mines. This study develops a practical approach to quantitatively estimate proneness roadways. A rigorous numerical and statistical conducted establish novel rating (BPR) system based on energy release characteristics. The includes eight geological geotechnical factors covers wide range inputs. dataset including 18 field cases (9 9 no-burst cases) was used validate proposed determine critical BPR value (i.e. threshold cases). probability $$\hat{p}_{burst}$$ p ^ burst bursts then obtained logistic regression. computed values using can distinguish that are line with scope input parameters this study. model results also showed mining depth most significant contributor release, along roof elastic modulus mass conditions. These suggested an environment consists relatively weak brittle under high vertical stresses surrounded by soft strata could promote unstable failures such as bursts.
